I'm Bill. I've have been in the automotive service industry for forty years. I started servicing fuel injectors in 1994 when I bought an ASNU flow bench. At that time I used it to service my customers fuel injectors and started offering the service to local independent shops and dealers. Bosch Fuel Injector O Ring Retainers
The Bosch type three fuel injector has a plastic upper retainer that provides support for the upper fuel o ring. With age these can become brittle and crack. There is now a solution to this problem. We have replacement retainers here in the store. Take a look at our video showing how to replace them at our YouTube channel.

Change The Injector Filters
Not all the injectors we service have filters this bad but it's getting more common. I'm not sure what caused the catastrophic failure of the three filters on the left. The one on the right is a new filter for comparison. As you can see on the third filter it's very dirty. It's possible that the screen being completely plugged caused it to blow out from the system pressure. Another possibility is fuel additives caused the screen material to fail. No matter the cause replacement as part of a service is important. We replace the filters on as part of our service in our shop and we have filters and kits with filters in our store
